Consciousness is, among other things, a spontaneous exercise in creativity. You are learning now, in a three-dimensional context, the ways in which your emotional and psychic existence can create varieties of physical form. You manipulate within the psychic environment, and these manipulations are then automatically impressed upon the physical mold.

Seth, Seth Speaks, Session 515

"As far as you are concerned the present is your point of action, focus and power, and from that point of volition you form both your future and past. Realizing this, you will understand that you are not at the mercy of a past over which you have no control."

Seth, The Nature of Personal Reality, Session 654

"In your system of reality you are learning what mental energy is, and how to use it. You do this by constantly transforming your thought and emotions into physical form. You are supposed to get a clear picture of your inner development by perceiving the exterior environment. What seems to be a perception, an objective concrete event independent from you, is instead the materialization of your own inner emotions, energy, and mental environment."

-Jane Roberts, The Seth Material. Prentice Hall, Inc., New York, 1970, p. 137.

"...if you do not have a loving concern for the environment in which you dwell, it will no longer sustain you - you will not be worthy of it. You will not be destroying the planet, you see. You will not be destroying the birds, or the flowers, or the grain, or the animals. You will not be worthy of them, and they will be destroying you."

Seth

"There is no condition that you cannot change, except one indisputably physically accepted at birth within the realms of creature hood, such as a liability in terms of a missing organ, or a functional lack."

"You are given the gift of the gods; you create your reality according to your beliefs; yours is the creative energy that makes your world; there are no limitations to the self except those you believe in."

Seth

"The most I can do is to acquaint you with the authority of your own psyche - to give you a trust in the nature of your being. For, if you trust what you are, you can never go wrong in whatever terms you use. You can fly through belief systems as a butterfly flies through back yards."

Seth

"To act in an independent manner, you must begin to initiate action that you want to occur physically by creating it in your own being. This is done by combining belief, emotion and imagination, and forming them into a mental picture of the desired physical result."

Seth

"Your experience in the world of physical matter flows outward from the center of your inner psyche. Then you perceive this experience. Exterior events, circumstances and conditions are meant as a kind of 'living" feedback. Altering the state of the psyche automatically alters the physical circumstances. There is no other valid way of changing physical events. It might help if you imagine an inner living dimension within yourself, in which you create, in miniature psychic form, all the exterior conditions that you know. Simply put, you do exactly this."

The Nature of Personal Reality, Chapter 1, Where You and the World Meet.

"You are meant to understand the nature of your inner self, and to manifest it outward. As this is done, the exterior circumstances should change for the better as the inner self becomes more aware of its own nature and capabilities. Theoretically, then, in each life you would become stronger, healthier, wealthier, and wiser, but it does not work that way, for many reasons. As mentioned earlier, many personalities adopt different kinds experiences, focusing upon development in certain specific areas, and ignoring others for a series of lives."

Seth, Seth Speaks

"The whole self is aware of all of the experiences of all of the egos, and since one identity forms them, there are bound to be similarities between them and shared characteristics."

Seth, Seth Material

"First of all, if you realize that the intellect itself is a part_of__nature, a part of the natural person, a part of magical processes, then you need not overstrain it, force it to feel isolated, or put it in a position where paranoid tendencies develop. It is itself supported, as your intuitions are, by life's magical processes. It is supported by the greater energy that gave you and the world birth. That power is working in the world, and in the world of politics, as it is in the world of nature, since you make that distinction."

Seth, 1980

"You should tell yourself frequently, I will only react to constructive suggestions, for this gives you some protection against your own negative thoughts and those of others."

Seth, Seth Material

"[CUs] may form particles, but it would be itself whether or not particles existed. In the most basic of terms, almost incomprehensible in your vocabulary, energy is not divided. There can be no portions or parts of it, because it is not an entity like a pie, to be cut or divided. For purposes of discussion, however, we must say that in your terms each smallest portion - each smallest unit of pure energy - contains within it the propelling force toward the formation of all possible variations of itself."

-Jane Roberts, The Nature of the Psyche: Its Human Expression. Bantam Books, New York, 1979, p. 163.

"They take certain forms, then, when they operate as particles, and experience their reality from 'the center of' those forms. They concentrate upon, or focus upon, their unique specifications. They become in your terms individual. When CUs operate as waves, however, they do not set up any boundaries about their own self-awareness - and when operating as waves CUs can indeed be in more than one place at one time."

-Jane Roberts, Dreams, "Evolution," and Value Fulfillment. Vol. 1. Prentice Hall Press, New York, 1986, p. 169.

". . .I tell you to remember your dreams. In your context I will tell you again not only to remember your dreams, but to learn to come awake in the middle of them and realize that you can manipulate them. You form them. They are yours, not something thrust upon you in which you are powerless.

"(Janice S.: "Are we using our existence as the dream?")

"What I have said applies to what you just said. In one context what you call physical reality is a dream, but in a larger context it is a dream that you have created. When you realize that you form it you come into the memory of your whole self.

"And when you realize that you form the events of your life in the same way, you will learn to take hold of your entire consciousness in whatever aspect it shows itself in this life. Through all of this you must realize that you are not powerless. Remember, also, that this life is a dimension of experience and reality even if it is, in contrast, a dream in a higher level of reality in which you have your larger consciousness."

Seth Speaks, Appendix; ESP Class Session: Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1971

As in your terms the cavemen ventured out into the daylight of the earth, so there is a time for man to venture out into a greater knowledge of his subjective reality, to explore the dimensions of selfhood and go beyond the small areas of himself in which he has thus far found shelter.

Seth, The "Unknown" Reality, Volume One, Session 684

"Now: Throughout your reincarnational existences you expand your consciousness, your ideas, your perceptions, your values. You break away from self-adopted restrictions, and you grow spiritually as you learn to step aside from limiting conceptions and dogmas. "Your rate of learning depends entirely upon you, however. Limited, dogmatic, or rigid concepts of good and evil can hold you back. Too narrow ideas of the nature of existence can follow you through several lives if you do not choose to be spiritually and psychically flexible."

Seth Speaks:

"The body must now and then ‘flush its system out’, run through its repertoire, raise its temperature, activate its hormonal actions more strongly....So some indispositions ‘caused by viruses’ are accepted by the bodies as triggers, to clean out that system...."

"....on vitamins: They are most effectively used for periods of two or three weeks, where they act as stimuli and reminders to the body. Then drop their use for two or three weeks, so that the body can then produce by itself those elements you have reminded it you want"

Seth says, page 265

"In physical life, your conscious mind is largely dependent upon the workings of your physical brain.[...] The brain to some extent keeps the mind to a three dimensional focus. It orients you toward the environment in which you must operate, and it is because of the mind’s allegiance with the temporal brain that you perceive, for example, time as a series of moments.[...] The brain channels the information that the mind receives to your physical structure[...] because of this, physically speaking and in life as you think of it, the mind is to a large extent dependent on the brain’s growth and activity."

Seth, Chapter 4, NOPR,

"When consciousness is being specified, it always sees itself at the center of the world. All specifications of consciousness and all phenomenal appearances occur when the basic units of consciousness, the CU’s, emerge into EE units, and hence into the dimensions of actuality in your terms. Your mainly accepted normal consciousness is within the matter of your body, and through it - the body - you view your world. There is nothing to prevent you from viewing your body from a standpoint outside of it, except that you have been taught that consciousness is imprisoned within the flesh. The body is also a sending and receiving organism; your home station, so to speak, and the focus for your activity. You can, however, quite consciously leap from it - and you do often, when for a while, particularly in the dream state, you view the world from another perspective.

In some adventures you do visit other probable realities in which you have a body structure quite as real as ‘your own.’ Your own psychological makeup, for that matter, achieves its marvelous complexity because it draws from the rich bank of your greater probable existences. Even a small understanding of these ideas can help you glimpse how limiting previous concepts of psychology have been.

The self that you know and recognize carries within it hints and traces of all your probable characteristics that can be actualized within your system of reality. Your body is equipped to bring any of these to fulfillment. Now, because of the selectivity mentioned earlier, certain directions may be easier than others, and some may appear impossible. Yet within the psychological and biological structure of your species, the roads of probabailities have more intersections than you know.

The conscious mind as you normally think of it directs your overall action, and its ideas determine the kind of selectivity you use. It is for this reason that I am trying to expand your conscious ideas, so that you become better equipped to choose your line of physical experience from all those probable ones open to you"

Seth, The "Unknown" Reality Volume I. Session 685

The Crucifixion story represented, in your terms, now, the self-destructive aspect of the species at the time. And it represents the self-destructive elements of the species in this time for those who still accept it.

"Many religions set up their methods and their dogmas, offering the hope of great knowledge, great understanding, and wisdom. There is only one catch: You must die first!...Some of the basic tenants of Christianity were good, But for all of that, you still have the story that when you suffer and die you will go to heaven, gain knowledge and beauty and truth, and escape this ‘vale if tears.’"

(With kindly humor:) "Think what might have happened, and think how your religious books might read, if the myth read differently. Supposing the story read thusly: Christ was not crucified at all. He was not persecuted. He was not chased. He was not scourged, and no one gave him vinegar to drink. Instead, they handed him purple robes, set him up in state at Rome, called him the Christ, the Son of God, but said that the kingdom of God is upon the earth, and salvation is now. What would the priests do? For indeed, knowledge and joy and salvation would be within your grasp. Many religions believe that you must go through trials or walk through fire first. Now, in your terms, that is certainly the most severe trial of all. And a poor way to prove faith. For if you believe in life, you prove your faith by living it. You dare love it. You do not need suffering or trials...."

"Many of you, for example, keep searching for some seemingly remote spiritual inner self that you can trust and look to for help and support, but all the while you distrust the familiar self with which you have such intimate contact. You set up divisions between the self that are unnecessary.

"Some correspondents write, saying, ‘I realize that I am too egotistical.’ There are many schools for spiritual advancement that teach you to ‘get rid of the clutter of your impulses and desires,’ to shove aside the self that you are in search of a greater idealized version. First of all, the self that you are is ever-changing and never static. There id an inner self in the terms of those definitions, but that inner self, which is the source of your present being, speaks through your impulses. They provide inbuilt spiritual and biological impetuses toward your most ideal development. You must trust the self that you are. Now.

"If you would know yourself in deepest terms, you must start with your own feelings, emotions, desires, intents and impulses. Spiritual knowledge and psychic wisdom are the natural results of a sense of self-unity.

"Again, impulses are inherently good, both spiritually and biologically. They emerge from Framework 2, from the inner self, and they are based in the great inner webwork of communication that exists between all the species on your planet. Impulses also provide the natural impetus toward those patterns of behavior that serve you best; so that while certain impulses may bunch up, say, toward physical activity, others, seemingly contradictory, will lead you toward quiet contemplation; so that overall, certain balances are maintained.

"Some people are only aware of, or largely aware of, impulses toward anger, because they have inhibited those natural impulses toward love that would otherwise temper what seemed to be aggressive impulses. When you begin trusting yourselves, you begin by taking it for granted that to some extent at least, you have not trusted yourself or your impulses in the past. You have thought that impulses were dangerous, disruptive, or even evil. So as you begin to learn self-trust, you acknowledge your impulses. You try them in for size. You see where they lead you by allowing them some freedom. You do not follow impulses through physically that would hurt others, or that seem in direct contradiction to your present beliefs. But you do acknowledge those impulses. You do try to discover their source. Behind them you will almost always find an inhibited impulse, or many of them, that motivated you to move in some ideal direction—to seek love or understanding so idealized in your mind that it seemed impossible to achieve. You are left with the impulse to strike out.

"If you examine such troublesome impulses, you will always find that they originally arose only after a long process, a process in which you were afraid to take small positive steps toward some ideal. Your own impulses naturally lead you to seek creative fulfillment, the expansion of your consciousness, psychic excursions, and the conscious knowledge and manipulation of your dreams.

"No methods will work if you are afraid of your own impulses, of the nature of your own being. Most of you understand that All That Is is within you; that ‘God’ is within creation, within physical matter, and that ‘He’ does not simply operate as some cosmic director on the outside of reality. You must understand that the spiritual self also exists within the physical self in the same fashion. The inner self is mot remote either, not divorced from your most intimate desires and affairs, but instead communicates through your own smallest gesture....

"This sense of division within the self forces you to think that there is a remote, spiritual, wise, intuitive inner self, and a bewildered, put-upon, spiritually ignorant, inferior physical self, which happens to be the one you identify with. Many of you believe, furthermore, that the physical self’s very nature is evil, that its impulses left alone will run to direct opposition to the good of the physical world and society, and fly in the face of the deeper spiritual truths of inner reality.

"The inner self then becomes so idealized...that the physical self by contrast seems only the more ignorant and flawed. In the face of such beliefs, the ideal of psychic development or astral travel or spiritual knowledge, or even of sane living, seems so remote as to be impossible."

"Examine the literature that you read, the television programs that you watch, and tell yourself to ignore those indications given of the body’s weakness. Tell yourself to ignore programs or literature that speak authoritatively about the species’ ‘killer instincts.’ Make an effort to free your intellect of such hampering beliefs. Take a chance on your own abilities clearly, neither exaggerating them or under-assessing them.

"You will not feel the need, say, to ‘justify your existence’ by exaggerating a particular gift, setting up the performance of one particular feat or art as a rigid ideal when, in fact, you may be pleasantly gifted, but not endowed with that ability enough to give you the outstanding praise you might think you desire.

"On the other hand, there are many highly gifted people who continually put their abilities down and are afraid to take one small step toward their expression. If you accept the rightness of your life in the universe, then your ideals will be those in keeping with your nature. They will be fairly easily given expression, so that they add to your own fulfillment and to the development of society as well.

"Your impulses are your closest communication with your inner self, because in the waking state they are the spontaneous urgings toward action, rising from that deep inner knowledge of yourself that you have in dreams. You were born because you had the impulse to be. There was no cosmic Pied Piper, singing magical notes urging the universe into being.

"The urge came from within, and that urge is repeated to some extent in each impulse, each urge toward action on the part of man or molecule. If you do not trust the nature of your impulses. then you do not trust the nature of your life, the nature of the universe, or the nature of your own being.

"Any animal knows better than to distrust the nature of his own life. And so does any infant. Nature exists by virtue of faith. The squirrel gathers nuts in the faith that is will have the needed provisions, and that spring will follow winter. Your impulses are immersed in the quality called faith, for they urge you into action in the faith that the moment for action exists. Your beliefs must interact with your impulses, however,. and often they can erode that natural beneficial spontaneity that impulses can provide.

"When I speak of impulses, many of you will automatically think of impulses that appear contradictory or dangerous if ‘evil,’ and that is because you are so convinced of the basic unworthiness of your being. You have every right to question your impulses, to choose between them, to access them; but you must be aware of them, acknowledge their existence, for they will lead you to your own true nature.

"With your belief systems, this may involve a lengthy journey for some of you. For many of your impulses now are the result of pressure caused by perfectly normal unacknowledged ones in the past. But your impulses reflect the basic impulse of you life. Even if they appear contradictory at any given time, overall they will be seen to form constructive patterns toward actions that point more clearly toward your own path for fulfillment and development.

"Natural attributes show themselves quite clearly, for example, in early childhood, when you are allowed greater freedom to do what you want to do. Some people as children love to work with words, some with images, some with objects. Some show great ability in dealing with their contemporaries, while others naturally lean toward solitude and private meditations. Look back toward the impulsive behavior of your childhood, toward those activities that mostly pleased you.

"If you painted pictures, this does not mean that you should necessarily be an artist. Only you know the strength of those impulses—but if they are intense and consistent, then pursue them. If you end up simply painting as a hobby, that will still enrich your life and understanding. If your impulses lead you toward relationships with others, then do not let fears of unworthiness stand in your way. It is very important that you express your idealism actively, to what ever extent you can, for this increases your sense of worth and power...."

Seth, Chapter 10, The Individual and the Nature of Mass Events

"Framework 2 represents the medium in which the natural and the source of the natural merge in a creative gestalt. That gestalt forms your physical being. Nature, without nature’s source, would not last a moment.

"In Framework 2, extra-natural help, energy, impetus, and knowledge are "naturally" available... But only when your own beliefs are clear enough so that the help is not blocked. By super-natural, again I mean the source from which nature springs....

"Your ideas come and go effortlessly, without impediments, with a sense of ease that is taken for granted. Your freedom to think is so transparent and natural that your scarcely aware of it. That freedom comes from Framework 2, as does the great creativity it makes possible....

"Framework 1 [in which you usually operate] deals with predictable behavior, predictable results, and dislikes surprises."

Seth, The God of Jane, A Psychic Manifesto, Page 9, 9/19/1977

"In Framework 2 the mind affects the physical brain in a more complete and effective manner than usual, and can spark images, thoughts, or correlations that exist in a context outside of the time that is happening in Framework 1. Time occurs at a certain regulated rate, then, obviously, in Framework 1. A certain amount of time is needed there to do a certain amount of work, and according to scientific dictates, a specific amount of effort is required to perform each different kind of work.

"Framework 1, to some extent or another, however, is always influenced by Framework 2. There [in Framework 2], the same correlations do not apply between the effort expended and the work performed, or the time required for such procedures. Very little effort, there, comparatively speaking, has a very definite effect here in [your] Framework 1. That is, a small amount of effort in Framework 2 can result in extraordinary work done in Framework 1, and with a foreshortened time effect....

"Suggestion purposefully applied while in a relaxed state, which is a connective to Framework 2, can be most effective."

Framework "Now, as I told you, Framework 2 is the creative medium that is responsible for physical life. It is true that your beliefs form your reality; however, you do have a certain leeway in that those desires that lead to fulfillment and positive creativity are more in keeping with the natural leanings of Framework 2 itself.

"Relatively speaking, then, these ‘take’ more quickly and accelerate in a more direct fashion. Limiting beliefs have to meet with certain resistances, for they are not in keeping with the overall creative framework.

"It is easier for the body to be healthy than ill, and in the terms of this discussion, for example, old age does not basically bring with it any particular diseases or susceptibility. Practically speaking, now, negative beliefs often catch up with the individual, leading to various diseases. I want to emphasize, however, that Framework 2 is not a neutral medium. Negative beliefs have to be inserted there with great repetitiveness before you meet their physical results."

Seth, The God of Jane, A Psychic Manifesto, Page 10, 9/24/1977

Consider your present self as an actor in a play; hardly a new analogy, but a suitable one. The scene is set in the twentieth century. You create the props, the settings, the themes; in fact, you write, produce, and act in the entire production - you and every other individual who takes part.

You are so focused in your roles, however; so intrigued by the reality that you have created, so entranced by the problems, challenges, hopes, and sorrows of your particular roles that you have forgotten they are of your own creation. This intensely moving drama, with all its joys and tragedies, can be compared with your present life, your present environment, both individually and in masse.

But there are other plays that are going on simultaneously, in which you also have a part to play. These have their own scenery, their own props. They take place in different periods of time. One may be called "Life in the twentieth century A.D." One may be called "Life in the eighteenth century," or "in 500 B.C.," or "in A.D. 3000." You create these plays and act in them. These settings also represent your own environment, the environment that surrounds your entire personality.

I am speaking of the portion of you who is taking part in this particular period piece, however; and that particular portion of your entire personality is so focused within this drama that you are not aware of the others in which you also play a role. You do not understand you own multidimensional reality; therefore it seems strange or unbelievable when I tell you that you live many existences at one time. It is difficult for you to imagine being in two places at once, much less in two or more times, or centuries.

Each of you are now involved in a much larger production, in which you all agree on certain basic assumptions that serve as a framework within which the play can occur. The assumptions are that time is a series of moments one after the another; that an objective world exists quite independently of your own creation and perception of it; that you are bound within the physical bodies that you have donned; and that you are limited by time and space.

... Now these various plays, these creative period pieces represent what you would call reincarnational lives.

They all exist basically at one time. Those who are still involved in these highly complicated passion-play seminars called reincarnational existences, find it difficult to see beyond them. Some resting between productions, as it were, try to communicate with those who are still taking part; but they themselves are merely in the wings, so to speak, and can only see so far.

The plays seem to be taking place one before the other, and so these communications seem to intensify the false idea that time is a series of moments, passing in a single line from some inconceivable beginning to some equally inconceivable end.

...

You are the multidimensional self who has these existences, who creates and takes place in these cosmic passion plays, so to speak It is only because you focus in this particular role now that you identify your entire being with it. You have set these rules for yourself for a reason. And consciousness is in a state of becoming, and so this multidimensional self of which I speak is not a psychological structure completed and done with. It is also in a state of becoming.

It is learning the art of actualization. It has within it infinite sources of creativity, unlimited possibilities of development. But it has yet to learn the means of actualization, and must find within itself ways to bring into existence those untold creations that are within it.

Therefore it creates varieties of conditions in which to operate, and sets itself challenges, some doomed to failure in your terms, at least initially, because it must first create the conditions which will bring new creations about. And all of this is done with great spontaneity and unbounded joy.

You therefore create for more environments than you realize. Now, each actor, going about the role, focused within the play, has an inner guide line. He is not left, therefore, abandoned within a play that he has forgotten in his own creation. He has knowledge and information that comes to him through what I call the inner senses.

He has other sources of information, therefore, than those strictly given within the confines of the production. Each actor knows this instinctively, and there are periods set and allowed for within the play itself in which each actor retires in order to refresh himself. In these he is informed through the inner senses of his other roles, and he realizes that he is far more than the self appearing in any given play.

In these periods he understands that he had his hand in the writing of the play, and he is freed from those assumptions that bind him while he is freed from those assumptions that bind him while he is actively concerned with the drama’s activities. These periods, of course, coincide with your sleep states and dreaming conditions; but there are also other times when each actor sees quire clearly that he is surrounded by props, and when his vision suddenly pierces the seeming reality of the production.

This does not mean the play is not real, or that it should not be taken seriously. It does mean playing a role - an important one. Each actor must of himself realize, however, the nature of the production and his part in it. He must actualize himself out of the three-dimensional confines of the plays setting.

There is great cooperation behind such momentous productions, and in playing his role, each actor first actualizes himself within three-dimensional reality. The multidimensional self cannot act within three-dimensional reality until it materializes a portion of itself within it.

Within this reality, it then brings about all kinds of creativity and development that could not appear otherwise. It must then propel itself from this system however, through another act, another actualization on the part of itself that is three-dimensional.

During its three-dimensional existence it has helped others in ways that they could not otherwise be helped and it has been itself benefited and developed in ways that would be impossible otherwise.

The meaning of the play is within you, therefore. It is only the conscious portion of you that acts so well, and that is focused so securely within the props of the production.

The purpose of any given life is available to you, the knowledge beneath the surface of the conscious self you know. All kinds of hints and clues are also available . You have the knowledge of your entire multidimensional personality at your fingertips. When you realize that you do, this knowledge allows you to solve the problems or meet the challenges you have set, quicker, in your terms; and also opens further areas of creativity by which the entire play or production can be enriched.

To the extent, therefore, that you allow the intuitions and knowledge of the multidimensional self to flow through the conscious self, to that extent not only do you perform your role in the play more effectively, but also you add new energy, insights, and creativity to the entire dimension.

Now it seems to you, of course, that you are the only conscious part of yourself, for you are identifying with the actor in this particular production. The other portions of your multidimensional personality, in these other reincarnational plays, are also conscious, however. And because you are a multidimensional consciousness, "you" are also conscious in other realities besides these.

Your multidimensional personality, your true identity, the real you, is conscious of itself, as itself, in any of these roles.

Seth, Seth Speaks, Session 521

Entities or souls, in other words, send out portions of themselves to open up avenues of reality that would not exist otherwise. The three-dimensional selves, in existing within these realities, must focus their attention there completely. An inner awareness gives them a source of energy and strength. They must, however, come to understand their roles as actors, "finally" from their roles, and through another act of comprehension, return to the entity.

There are those who appear within these plays fully aware. These personalities willingly take roles, knowing that they are roles, in order to lead others toward the necessary realization and development. They lead the actors to see beyond the selves and settings they have created.

These personalities from other levels of existence oversee the play, so to speak, and appear among the actors. Their purpose is to open up within the three-dimensional selves those psychological doorways that will release the three-dimensional self for further development in another system of reality

You are learning to be co-creators. You are learning to be gods as you understand the term. You are learning responsibility - the responsibility of any individualized consciousness.

You are learning to handle the energy that is yourself, for creative purposes.

First of all, if you realize that the intellect itself is a part of nature, a part of the natural person, a part of magical processes, then you need not overstrain it, force it to feel isolated, or put it in a position where paranoid tendencies develop. It is itself supported, as your intuitions are, by life’s magical processes. It is supported by the greater energy that gave you and the world birth. That power is working in the world, and in the world of politics, as it is in the world of nature, since you make that distinction.

Seth, 1980

Seth talking about technology.

"… Gadgets will, ultimately, teach you nothing about the dimensions of your own consciousness. When you use them even to attain alterations of consciousness, you are programming yourselves, stepping apart from yourselves."

"Such gadgets can be useful only if they show you that such alterations are naturally possible. Otherwise, with your ideas of applied science and technology, the gadgets will be the pivoting point, and the ideas of manipulation will be stressed. In other words, unless the ideas behind objective science are altered, then gadget-produced altered states will almost certainly be used to manipulate, rather than free, consciousness."

"...There have indeed been civilizations upon your planet that understood as well as you, and without your kind of technology, the workings of the planets, the positioning of stars- people who even foresaw "later" global changes. They used a mental physics. There were men before you who journeyed to the moon, and who brought back data quite as "scientific" and pertinent. There were those who understood the "origin" of your solar system far better than you. Some of these civilizations did not need spaceships. Instead, highly trained men combining the abilities of dream-art scientists and mental physicists cooperated in journeys not only through time but through space. There are ancient maps drawn from a 200-mile-or-more vantage point- these meticulously completed on return from such journeys."

"There were sketches of atoms and molecules, also drawn after trained men and women learned the art of identifying with such phenomena. There are significances hidden in the archives of many archaeological stores that are not recognized by you because you have not made the proper connections- and in some cases you have not advanced sufficiently to understand the information."

Seth, The "Unknown" Reality in Session 702.

"The past existed in multitudinous ways. You only experienced one probable past. By changing this past in your mind, now, in your present, you can change not only its nature but its effect, and not only upon yourself but upon others."

"Pretend a particular event happened that greatly disturbed you. In your mind imagine it not simply wiped out, but replaced by another event of more beneficial nature. Now this must be done with great vividness and emotional validity, and many times. It is not a self-deception. The event that you choose will automatically be a probable event, which did in fact happen, though it is not the event you choose to perceive in your given probable past."

"Telepathically, if the process is done correctly, your idea will also affect any people who were connected with the original event, though they can choose to reject as well accept your version."

Seth, Chapter 16, page 262, Session 566, Seth Speaks.

"Realize that your physical experience and environment is the materialization of your beliefs. If you find great exuberance, health, effective work, abundance, smiles on the faces of those who you meet, then take it for granted that your beliefs are beneficial. If you see a world that is good, people like you, take it for granted again, that your beliefs are beneficial. But if you find poor health, a lack of meaningful work, a lack of abundance, a world of sorrow and evil, then assume your beliefs are faulty and begin examining them."

Seth, The Nature of Personal Reality

Some part of the individual is aware of the most minute portions of breath; some part knows immediately of the most minute particle of oxygen and other components that enter the lungs. The thinking brain does not know. Your all-important "I" does not know. In actually, my dear friends, the all-important "I" does know. You do not know the all-important "I", and that is your difficulty.

It is fashionable in your time to consider man as the product of the brain and an isolated bit of the subconscious, with a few other odds and ends thrown in for good measure. Therefore, with such an unnatural division, it seems to man that he does not know himself.

He says, "I breathe, but who breathes, since consciously I cannot tell myself to breathe or not to breathe?" He says, "I dream. But who dreams? I cannot tell myself to dream or not to dream." He cuts himself in half and then wonders why he is not whole. Man has admitted only those things he could see, smell, touch, or hear; and in so doing, he could only appreciate half of himself. And when I say half, I exaggerate; he is aware of only a third of himself.

If man does not know who breathes within him, and if man does not know who dreams within him, it is not because there is one self who acts in the physical universe and another who dreams and breathes. It is because he has buried the part of himself which breathes and dreams. If these functions seem so automatic as to be performed by someone completely divorced from himself, it is because he has done the divorcing.

The part of you who dreams is the "I" as much as the part of you who operates in any other manner. The part of you who dreams is the part of you who breathes. This part of you is certainly as legitimate and necessary to you as a whole unit it, as the part who plays bridge or Scrabble. It would seem ludicrous to suppose that such a vital matter as breathing would be left to a subordinate, almost completely divorced, poor-relative sort of a lesser personality.

As breathing is carried on in a manner that seems automatic to the conscious mind, so the important function of transforming the vitality of the universe into patter units seems to be carried on automatically. But this transformation is not as apparent to the one part of yourself that you are pleased to recognize, and so it seems as if this transformation is carried on by someone even more distant than your breathing and dreaming selves.

Because you know that you breathe, without being consciously aware of the mechanics involved, you are forced to admit that you do your own breathing. When you cross a room, you are forced to admit that you have caused yourself to do so, though consciously you have no idea of willing the muscles to move, or of stimulating one tendon or another. Yet even though you admit these things, you do not really believe them.

In your quiet unguarded moments, you still say, "Who breathes? Who dreams? Who moves?" How much easier it would be to admit freely and whole-heartedly the simple fact that you are not consciously aware of vital parts of yourself and that you are more than you think you are.

Man, for example, trusts himself much more when he says "I will read," and then he reads, than he does when he says, "I will see," and then he sees. He remembers having learned to read, but he does not remember having learned to see, and what he cannot consciously remember, he fears.

The fact is that although no one taught him to see, he sees. The part of himself that did "teach" him to see still guides his movements, still moves the muscles of his eyes, still becomes conscious despite him when he sleeps, still breathes for him without thanks or recognition and still carries on his task of transforming energy from an inner reality into an outer one. Man becomes trapped by his own artificially divided self.

It is true that, as a rule, you are not aware of your whole entity. There is no reason, however, why you must be blind to the whole self of your present personality, which is part of the entity, and which can be glimpsed in terms of the breathing and dreaming "self" of which I have spoken.

It is convenient not to be consciously aware of each breath you take, but it is sheer stupidity to ignore the inner self which does the breathing and is aware of the mechanics involved. I have said that the mind is a part of the inner world, but you have access to your own minds, which you ignore; and this access would lead you inevitably to truths about the outer world. Working inward, you could understand the outward more clearly.

You say little, for example, if you note that spiders make webs instinctively because spiders must eat insects, and that the best web-maker will be the fittest kind of spider to survive. (Long pause, then with humour:) It is very difficult for me to escape the sticky web of your beliefs. The web, however, in its way represents an actualized ideal on the spider’s part - and, if you will forgive the term, an artistic one as well. (Louder and underlined:) It amazes the spiders that flies so kindly fall into those webs. You might say that the spider wonders that art can be so practical.

What about the poor unsuspecting fly? Is it then so enamored of the spider’s web that it loses all sense of caution? (Whispering and dryly:) For surely flies are the victims of such nefarious webby splendors. We are into sticky stuff indeed.

Session 863 , The Individual and Nature of Mass Events

"...if you do not have a loving concern for the environment in which you dwell, it will no longer sustain you - you will not be worthy of it. You will not be destroying the planet, you see. You will not be destroying the birds, or the flowers, or the grain, or the animals. You will not be worthy of them, and they will be destroying you."

Seth, Seth Speaks.

"The magical approach is indeed the natural approach to life's experience. It is the adult version of childhood knowledge, the human version of the animals' knowledge, the conscious version of 'unconscious' comprehension."

Jane Roberts/Seth

An affirmation Seth's suggested To Jane and Robert:

1. I will approve of myself, my characteristics, my abilities, my likes and dislikes, my inclinations and disinclinations, realizing that these form my unique individuality. They are given to me for a reason.

2. I will approve of and rejoice in my accomplishments, and I will be as vigorous in listing these -- as rigorous in remembering them -- as I have ever been in remembering and enumerating my failures or lacks of accomplishment.

3. I will remember the creative framework of existence, in which I have my being. Therefore the possibilities, potentials, seeming miracles, and joyful spontaneity of Framework 2 will be in my mind, so that the doors to creative living are open.

4. I will realize that the future is a probability. In terms of ordinary experience, nothing exists there yet. It is virgin territory, planted by my feelings and thoughts in the present. Therefore I will plant accomplishments and successes, and I will do this by remembering that nothing can exist in the future that I do not want to be there.

End

"...the Magical Approach should be used because it represents the most harmonious method of life. It is a way of living that automatically enhances all of your abilities and accelerates your comprehensions."

"...[you] should remove senses of urgency on your parts, or of self-criticism, that make you question when or how [you] can 'learn to make' the magical approach work in any specific way --- that is, why you cannot learn to make the approach work in, say, helping Ruburts's condition in a faster, more effective fashion."

"You should understand that the approach is the best one to use in life, generally speaking, but it will improve all conditions, even if you still have difficulties in certain areas, and its use cannot help but promote the overall quality of your lives. That reognition takes the pressure off, so that you can to some extent relax your old attitudes enough so that you allow the magical approach (long pause) to work in those areas that have been bones of contention."

"The Magical Approach puts you in harmony with your own individual knowledge of the universe. It puts you in touch with the magical feeling of yourself that you had as a child, and that is familiar to you at levels usually beyond your physical knowledge of yourself. It is better, then, to use the approach because you recognize it for what it is than to use it specifically in order to get something that you want, however beneficial (All very intently) ... If it is used because you recognize its inherent rightness in yourself, its inherent 'superior stance,' then it automatically puts you in a position of comprehension, so that the difficulties themselves are simply no longer as important --- and vanish from your experience in, again, a more natural manner."

"In a fashion, all of the material that I have given you in the annals of our relationship was meant to lead you in one way or another to a place where the true nature of reality could at least be glimpsed. You are at that point now."

"... (Now) you (can) begin to glimpse a promised land --- a 'land' of psyche and reality that represents unimpeded nature (again, all very intently)."

"The 'proper' question to ask is not: 'Can I enter that land?' The land is here, where you are, and it always has been. The methods, the ways, the beliefs, the modes of travel to a destination create the destination itself. (A one-minute pause.) It is impossible for you to operate without beliefs in your present mode of existence (another minute), 'for beyond' those glittering packages of beliefs, however, there exists the vast reservoir of sensation itself, the land that does indeed exist 'beyond beliefs.' "

"The universe is not dependent upon your belief in it in order that it can exist. It contains within itself its own comprehension of its own knowledge, its own magical recognition of itself, its own harmonious laws and orders, its own cabinetry. It possesses and holds intact even the smallest probability, so that no briefest possible life or creature or being is ever lost in the shuffle of (its) cosmic mechanics."

"To even sense the existence of that kind of reality, however, you must have already 'opened the doorway' to Framework 2, and begun to use the magical approach as your natural instinctive way of dealing with experience."

DREAMS, "EVOLUTION" and VALUE FULFILLMENT Vol 2. Pages 528-529

"We are beginning to learn the creative joy of play. I believe, for example, that all creativity and consciousness is born in the quality of play, as opposed to work, in the quickened intuitional spontaneity that I see as a constant through all my own existences, and in the experience of those I know.

....All of my deaths would have been adventures had I realized what I know now. On the one hand, you take life too seriously, and on the other, you do not take playful existence seriously enough."

Seth Speaks, Page 35

"it is not so much that man or nature seeks to satisfy needs, but to exuberantly, rambunctiously seek pleasure-and through following its pleasure each organism finds and satisfies his needs as well."

"There is a beauty and a strength and a joy in looking within yourselves - and a freedom from bondage. And I hope that when I am finished with you all, you will taste some of that joy and freedom at summation point. You will not get it from a book, you will not get it like your chocolates, wrapped up in a merry box. You will not get it by making exceptions. You will not get it by saying, ‘I am the exception to the rule!’ "

Seth

If you take upon yourselves tragedies that do not exist in your reality, in your moment; then you weaken your position and you weaken the position of those you think you are helping. You look about you and you see only hopelessness and helplessness. You organize your reality according to the tragedies of the newspapers!

The tragedies of the newspapers are symbols. Those symbols represent "real" tragedies, but those tragedies do not exist in your moment unless you are participating in them. Those who are involved in such tragedies feel a sense of hopeless and a loss of power in the present - and you do not help them by taking on the guise of hopelessness!

Seth, Conversations With Seth By Sue Watkins

"I leaned against reality and it gave."

Jane Roberts, Channeler of Seth

" You want something, you dwell upon it consciously for a while, you consciously imagine it coming to the forefront of probabilities, closer to your actuality. Then you drop it like a pebble into Framework 2, forget about it as much as possible for a fortnight, and do this in a certain rhythm. "

Seth DEVFV1

Seth is talking about the New Year of 1980 and all the probable 1980's that the world is choosing to experience.

"Your education tells you that the world is defined by its physical aspects alone. When you think of power you think of, say, nuclear energy, or solar energy - but POWER is the creative energy within men's MINDS that allows them to use such powers, such energies, such forces. The true power is in the imagination which dares to speculate upon that which is not yet. The imagination, backed by great expectations, can bring about almost any reality within the range of probabilities. All of the possible versions of 1980 will happen. Except for those you settle upon, all of the others will remain psychologically peripheral, in the background of your conscious experience - but all of those possible versions will be connected in one way or another.

The important lessons have never really appeared in your societies: the most beneficial use of the directed will, with great expectations, and that coupled with the knowledge of Framework 1 and 2 activities. VERY simply: " You want something, you dwell upon it consciously for a while, you consciously imagine it coming to the forefront of probabilities, closer to your actuality. Then you drop it like a pebble into Framework 2, forget about it as much as possible for a fortnight, and do this in a certain rhythm."

Seth, Pg 183 of Dreams Evolution & Value Fulfillment Vol 1:

"Do not place the words of gurus, ministers, preists, scientists, psycologists, friends --or even my words--higher than the feelings of your own being. You can learn much fr0m others, but the deepest knowledge must come fr0m within yourself. Your own consciousness is embarked upon a reality that basically can be experienced by no other, that is unique and untranslatable, with it's own meaning, following its own paths of becomming. You share your existence with others who are experiencing their own journeys -in their own ways,- and you have journeying in common, then. Be kind to yourself and to your companions."

Seth, NOPR, session 677

All That Is contained within itself the knowledge of all existences, with their infinite probabilities, and 'as soon as' All That Is IMAGINED those numberless circumstances, they existed in what I will call divine fact. "

DEVFV1

"The true power is in the imagination which dares to speculate upon that which is not yet. The imagination, backed by great expectations, can bring about almost any reality within the range of probabilities."

Seth DEVFV1

"Amid the mad scramble, you do make your own reality. I admit that this sounds too simple, but you will not be caught in an earthquake if you do not want to be, and no one dies who has not decided to do so. You make your own reality—or you do not.

And if you do not, then you are everywhere a victim, and the universe must be an accidental mechanism appearing with no reason. So that the miraculous picture you have seen of your body came accidently into creation, and out of some cosmic accident attained its miraculous complexity. And that body was formed so beautifully for no reason except to be a victim.

That is the only other alternative to forming your own reality. You cannot have a universe in between. You have a universe formed with a reason, or a universe formed without a reason. And in a universe of reason, there are no victims. Everything has a reason, or nothing has a reason.

So—choose your side."

Seth, NOPR

" Physical reality springs from the imagination, which follows the path of your beliefs "

Seth, NOPR

"You cannot justify or rationalize present circumstances by saying 'this is because of something I did in a past life...'"

"Karma presents the opportunity for development. It enables the individual to enlarge understanding through experience, to fill in gaps of ignorance, to do what should be done. Free will is always involved."

P. 136, Seth Material

"Your religious ideas have often told you that deformities at birth were the result of the parents' sins cast upon the children, or that another kind of punishment was involved in terms of "karma."...

The entire idea of reincarnation has been highly distorted by other religious concepts. It is not a psychological arena composed of crime and punishment. Again, you have free will in the conditions of your life, given the characteristics that are your own...."

"You will not understand your part within the framework of nature until you actually see yourselves in danger of tearing it apart."

Seth Speaks, Session 550

"If you want to know what you think of yourself, then ask yourself what you think of others, and you will find your answer."

Seth

"You must realize that pure energy has such transforming pattern-forming propensities that it always appears as its manifestations. It becomes its camouflages.

It may form particles, but it would be itself whether or not particles existed. In the most basic of terms, almost incomprehensible in your vocabulary, _energy is not divided._ There can be no portions or parts of it, because it is not an entity like a pie, to be cut or divided. For purposes of discussion, however, we must say that in your terms each smallest portion - each smallest unit of pure energy - contains within it the propelling force toward the formation of all possible variations of itself.

The smallest unit of pure energy, therefore, weighing nothing in your terms, containing within itself no mass, would hold within its own nature the propensity for the creations of matter in _all_ of its forms, the impetus to create _all_ possible universes. In those terms, energy cannot be considered without bringing to the forefront questions concerning the nature of God and All That Is, for the terms are synonymous."

Seth

" The world of the imagination is indeed your contact with your own source. Its characteristics are the closest to those in Framework 2 that you can presently encounter. "

Seth, Mass Events

" Your experience of history, of the days of your life, is invisibly formed by those ideas that exist in the imagination only, and then are projected upon the physical world. "

Seth, Mass Events

"There is no event upon the face of the earth in which each of you has not played some part, however minute, because of the nature of your thoughts, beliefs, and expectations. There is no public act in which you are not in that same manner involved. You are intimately connected with _all_ of the historic events of your time. (Long pause) To some extent you participated in putting a man on the moon, whether or not you had any connection at all with the physical occuance itself. "

Mass Events, session 873

"The residents of the mind are very real. In a certain fashion, they are your parents, much more than parents were.and when you express their realities, they are also expressing yours. All time is simultaneous. Only the illusion of time on each of your parts, keeps you from greeting each other. To some extent, when you paint such portraits, you are forming psychic bridges between yourself and those other selves: Your own identity as yourself grows.

_Only in a manner of speaking_ (repeated twice) there are _certain_ (humourusly) a necessary qualifying word-"power-selves", or personalities: parts of your greater identity who utilized fairly extravagant amounts of energy in very constructive ways. That energy is also a part of your personality_and as you paint such images you will undoubtedly feel some considerable bursts of ambition, and even exuberance. The feelings will allow you to identify the images of such personalities."

Mass Events, session 834

"There are human beings on the face of this earth who do not know what love means, or companionship, who do not have parents, who do not have sisters or brothers, who understand an isolation that is bleak and cold, even if it is of their own making. Each of you in this room who has the opportunity to share with another then know that is grace, and be thankful for that which you experience, and do not underestimate what you have.

There are personalities who have traveled through the centuries, literally, without such an understanding. And if this was their reality, and if it was their making, still be glad that it is not yours, and accept those relationships that you now have, and realize their potential and do not close yourselves off through stupid pride and through barriers of your own making.

Now the atoms and molecules that compose you are glorious, impermanent things, and through the leadership of your consciousness have you led them to consciousness and song, and through you do they experience what you experience. And when each of you come together in a personal relationship are you then glorifying and adding to the reality of the consciousness that is within those atoms and molecules.

You know each other in each life a brief time. What joy and comfort you can give, then give. What support you can render, render. Do you realize that by doing this you become more than you think you are?

And I am not speaking to any of you of self-sacrifice, for there is no such thing, and there is no such road and I do not advocate it.

But if you demand the best that is within you, then you become more than you realize that you are, and you must also demand more from the other persons within your relationship.

For the bones that you call your own will lie a long time in the grave. The physical beings of those that you know change even as I speak. For the moment is intimate, and the voice that speaks beside you in the night, in your terms, will not speak for long. Therefore, comfort it while you can."
